How violent is it?

If it were a movie, it would be PG-13. While this book is about assassins and thereby deals with topics of killing and death, this book focuses on the plot rather than graphic descriptions of gore. There is mentions of blood pouring from a wound or covering a character’s hands, and there are a number of gunshots fired, but descriptions are minimal.

For what age range do you recommend this book?

This book is considered Young Adult/New Adult, meaning it is written with 16-25-year-olds in mind. This age range is based on the age of the main character (19) as well as some of the content (minimal violence, as well as topics of post-traumatic-stress disorder, anxiety, and depression later in the series). However, as its content is a PG-13 equivalent, many 13-years-old readers have enjoyed this book. By My Own Betrayal has also been a hit with the ‘young-at-heart’ who enjoy upbeat, exciting action novels or mysteries.

I’ve read Christian books before that are cheesy and/or preachy. Is this one like that?

This book was written to combat the cheese/preachiness often found in Christian literature. While there is literally a sermon and a ‘quick’ conversion in the plot, you’ll find realistic characters with deep-seated flaws that wrestle with faith. This book isn’t designed as a message disguised as book where one Bible verse and a quick prayer solve everything–this book explores what it means to be a Christian and the struggles of sharing your faith with others.

Is this a romance?

No, this book is not a romance. The female main character banters often with the male FBI agent, but they do not become romantically involved.
